Project summary:

My interest lies in the liminal space where colours overlap. After completing my MA with a focus on diverging from commercial practice through experimentation with analogue media, I found an interest in overlaying transparencies, limited palettes, gestural marks, and textured line. I hope to use my time on the AA2A residency to explore how I can integrate these interests into print, marrying the commercial and studio sides of my practice, all while continuing to focus on experimentation and play.

Having access to the Universities’ printmaking facilities will give me the opportunity to experiment with a medium I haven’t had access to before. I also plan to use the lecture programmes and library to contextualise my work from a different perspective than commercial illustration. Being in an environment with other creative people after 2 years of pandemic lockdowns and online study will also push me to build connections and boost my mental health.

I plan to create a body of work that I can exhibit that brings together both sides of my practice. I hope to make a collection of prints based on play, experimentation, and fun, to encourage myself to step outside the box of my iPad screen. I want to document this development process on the AA2A blog, and exhibit the work over the course of the residency. Finally, I hope to set up collaborations with fellow AA2A residents, and build a creative network with other local artists in Chester.
